Medical gap scheme removes the financial uncertainty related to in-hospital medical treatment for Manchester Unity Health Fund members and is automatically included in your hospital cover.
What is the gap?
The medical 'gap' is any amount above the Medicare Schedule Fee set by the Federal Government that a doctor charges a patient for in-hospital medical services.
Prior to Federal Government legislative changes in 2000, Medicare paid 75% of the in-hospital medical costs and we could only pay the remaining 25%. Manchester Unity can now pay more if your doctor participates in our medical gap scheme.
If your doctor uses our medical gap scheme, you will have no out of pocket expenses.
Your doctor can also bill Manchester Unity direct, making it even easier for you.
It's your doctor's choice to participate in our medical gap scheme. Your special relationship with your doctor and the treatment you receive will not change.
See the Government checklist, providing you with all the questions you need to ask before going to hospital as a private patient.
