Overseas Visitors Health Cover


This product is designed for visitors to Australia who want access to high quality health care but who may not be eligible for full cover under the Australian public health system, known as Medicare.

As visitors to Australia, you may not be eligible to receive Medicare benefits. But with Overseas Visitors Health Cover you receive all of the public hospital and medical benefits that Medicare offers, plus the peace of mind of having access to over 400 private hospitals and day hospitals throughout Australia.

This product meets the minimum requirements for health insurance for 457 Visa applicants as set by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).



Overseas Visitors Health Cover Overseas Visitors Health cover can be taken with or without Healthcover Plus Extras cover giving you access to a range of health services such as dental, optical and physiotherapy.
Ambulance Included
Excess choices Singles: choice of nil, $500 or $1,000. This is the total annual excess you will pay regardless of the number of admissions.

Couples/Families: choice of nil, $500 or $1,000 excess per person to a maximum of twice your chosen excess per policy per calendar year.

You won’t pay any excess for accidents and dependant children are exempt.

Am I covered in Australia?


If you are from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Sweden, Finland, Belgium, Italy, New Zealand or the Netherlands, your governments have negotiated reciprocal health care agreements with Australia. This means that you will receive limited cover for emergency treatment in a public hospital. Emergency ambulance cover is not included under the reciprocal agreements.

Situations where you're not covered


  • Treatment rendered outside of Australia including treatment necessary en route to or from Australia.
  • Treatment arranged in advance of your arrival in Australia.
  • Services and treatment which are covered by compensation and damages provisions of any kind.
  • Services which do not have Medicare item code such as elective cosmetic surgery items.
  • Where the procedure required is within the required waiting periods.
  • Services relating to assisted reproductive services such as IVF, fertility investigation and infertility treatments.

Please note: elective cosmetic surgery and surgery by an accredited podiatrist are not fully covered by Overseas Visitors Health Cover and usage of these services will result in significant personal expenses.
